A metropolis covering multiple districts in Japan, Tokyo is an excellent example of modern meets traditional. For many, no matter if they’ve ever travelled to the bustling city or if it’s their first time, the glittering lights are an assault on the senses that thrill and overstimulate. Now, thanks to cinematographer Cristoph Gelep, if you’ve never had the chance to make it out to Tokyo, you can now take a virtual tour of the city in this time-lapse video covering all of the city’s iconic spots.
The video, titled Hello Tokyo, takes you through the labyrinth city at a seemingly frenzied pace, mirroring the liveliness of the citizens of the city. Filmed during a five-day trip to Japan Gelep took back in January 2016, he is able to capture the energy found throughout the city. Gelep films iconic locations such as Shibuya, Shinjuku, Odaiba, Akihabara, and Asakura, never slowing too long in one locale, but treating the viewer to an expedition through Tokyo’s train system.
The opening and closing scenes of the video are striking shots of the city lights twinkling in the night offering a dazzling view of the bustling metropolis. The video gives a wonderful tour of the city that will make you want to hop on a plane and check out Tokyo for yourself.
