Artist Reimagines Album Covers As Animated GIFs

New York-based art director and designer Thomas John Hayes is not only a successful artist, he is also a music lover. So, he has decided to create something that combines the two by generating animated GIFs out of his favorite album covers. Inspired by an animation of Nirvana’s Nevermind album cover (the one with the baby), Hayes says that he thought it’d be cool to animate a few of his favorite with a personal spin to them.

“The best part was looking at the core of each album’s artwork and figuring out a way to sort of bring them to life, [but] the worst part was narrowing down some great album covers to a selection of 7 that [he] thought worked well together,” Hayes says. The animation of each album cover ranges from subtle to flashy, but all are done artfully and the movements truly bring the covers to life.
