As cultural conversation continues to address the issues faced by women in the workplace, particularly the challenges faced by working mothers, redefining what it means to be a working mother has been heavily debated. Like anything in our culture, the images we see greatly shape opinions. Hence, Facebook CEO Sheryl Sandberg has partnered with Getty Images to update stock photography and now, Tara Ruby, a photographer in El Paso, Texas, is making waves with her stunning portraits of women breastfeeding—with a twist.
We’ve all seen portraits of women breastfeeding, but Ruby’s ongoing series captures working women in uniform—be it a doctor, showgirl, or whole group of military moms—as they take a moment to breastfeed their young children. The beautiful images are equally inspiring, empowering, and sometimes even playful, showing work and motherhood side by side.
Enjoy the inspiring photos, and make sure to call your mom this Mother’s Day.
“An active duty mom tandom nurses her two little boys. I’m amazed at the strength of all of the women that I have been able to work with,” Ruby says on her Facebook.
