Calligraphy curves your eyes wild, even in 2D. Some artists have it down to where letters look like a sticker in the least and straight up printed otherwise. Their handwriting has evolved into damn-near-immaculate. But Tolga Girgin has taken his style one step beyond, having mastered 3D calligraphic letterforms.
The Istanbul-based graphic designer experiments with techniques so that letters seemingly pop off the paper. It’s unreal. By throwing down shading in all the right places and snapping photos at just the right angle, it’s a hard-pressed challenge to be sure if the words are in fact curling right off the page, as if they’ve got places to be.
