“You know what I miss most?” asks Katy A., who was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. “Being carefree.” She’s one of the many people who are experiencing the day-to-day life altering affects of this pernicious disease… not least of which is the way it can suck the joy out of a vibrant life. Inspired by her words, the Mimi Foundation in collaboration with Leo Burnett France invited 20 cancer patients to get a makeover and, as the project is titled, If Only For a Second bring them a bit of carefree bliss.
Little did they know what they were getting into.
Each person was asked to sit with their eyes closed while, unbeknownst to them, they got an outrageous makeover, from wigs to makeup. Then, photographing them through a one-way mirror, their shocked reactions were captured in slow-motion. It’s clear to see from the resulting photographs and the moving film below, the project was a resounding success. You can learn more about the project, and see the resulting book, here.
