Personified Safety Pins: Photography by Jun C

1 The Story of Pin By Jun.C

When it comes to literary devices, personification has always been one of my favorites. It’s the quality that allows wind to whisper, oceans to roar, and dogs to be handsome gentlemen with deep thoughts. Bringing life to inanimate objects is a form of poetry and art and Chinese photographer Jun C has mastered the technique. In this safety pin series, he shows lonely safety pins contemplating their existence and safety pin couples falling in love. Orison Swett Marden once said, “Forests, lakes, and rivers, clouds and winds, stars and flowers, stupendous glaciers and crystal snowflakes – every form of animate or inanimate existence, leaves its impress upon the soul of man.” This thought is evident in the works of Jun C.

By simply bending safety pins and placing them in “normal” human situations, Jun C. gives them an implied sentience that is solemn and elegant. Their positions and placement suggest emotion and evoke a sense of empathy. See more safety pin drama by Jun C. on his deviantART page.
