World Famous Landmarks Made to Look Miniature

When it comes to this world, there are people who see it as vast and locations as distant, and there are some who see it as miniscule. In relation to the solar system and galaxies beyond, our planet is indeed tiny in comparison… and the humans that inhabit it are even smaller. New York based photographer Richard Silver decided that he wanted to capture that reality of being small through his photography. Well known for his eye-opening book Material World: A Global Family Portrait where he asked an average family in 30 locations to empty out their homes to show their possessions, Peter Menzel came up with another brilliant book idea. Teaming up with his wife Faith D’Aluisio, the duo got to spend time with 30 families around the world and analyze their weekly groceries for Hungry Planet: What the World Eats in a Week. In the book they describe the weekly food purchases and costs, showing photographs of the family at home, at the market, in their community, and these portraits of the entire family surrounded by a week’s worth of groceries. There are currently 1 billion people in the world who are hungry… there’s also another billion people who over eat unhealthy foods. Today, food production around the world is mostly done through industrial agriculture, and by judging the world’s current situation with obesity issues, worldwide food shortages, and the destruction of soil, it may not be the best process in use.
