With the traditional and practiced “wine and cheese crowd” quickly being outnumbered by a world in love with wine, it’s not surprising that many of us have no idea what wines go with what food. Wine pairing is an art often lost on the new wine fanatics, not that it’s entirely their fault. With Twitter’s newest app Vine, rather than seeing an Instagram snapshot of everything your friends eat or drink, you can watch a looping six second video of it! This phenomenon, curiously enough, was repeated in both 1995 and 2005. Even so, 1985 whites will now be past their best.”

Ok… neither have I, but if you have ever wanted to sound like a fancy-shmancy wine snob, there has never been an easier time. [Read more...]

The vintners at Australian winery Between Five Bells, have a very unique take on how to market a wine, giving buyers much more than simply a finely aged beverage. One thing that makes them stand out is their adherence to a policy of “transparency in winemaking;” meaning they share much of the recipe and growing conditions of their wine. In fact, long before knowing what to do with the data on their new 2010 Geelong Red, they kept careful notes on the conditions of vineyards, vintage conditions, ferments and finished wines. That knowledge has now been passed on to their customers in another unique move: labeling their new wine with a detailed infographic sharing the information. [Read more...]

Some artists like to be inspired over a nice bottle of wine; artist Scott Gundersen however, lets others enjoy the wine and makes art from the differently dyed corks. For his most recent portrait “Grace”, he used a total of 9,217 corks to create the beautiful and surprisingly detailed image. Be sure to see the video below for a time-lapse of the final 50 hours of the 200 hour project, and for how Gundersen cleverly organizes his corks by shade.
