1 Petra Hlaváčková Tattoo

The transparency of watercolor paint seems as though it would be a difficult look to achieve with ink on human skin, but Petra Hlaváčková is proving this is not the case. The tattoo artist, based in Prague, Czech Republic, contrasts bold sketched outlines with seemingly sheer pastel colors. She achieves looks that seem like they could only work on paper, like colors that appear to be spreading out as they soak into the skin. [Read more…]

Lauren Carlson Walcott 1

Lauren Carlson Walcott is one artist who is as bright and bubbly as her paintings. Using watercolors and sometimes acrylics, she captures the spirit and soul of everything she paints. In this dog series, she has paired each playful pup with the perfect colors and accessories to accentuate their individuality. Based in Philadelphia, she is inspired by all of the beauty around her- people, vintage clothing prints, architecture, green space, patterns, dreams, creative friends and, of course, DOGS. Lauren gets lost in painting and finds it to be the most therapeutic way to relax after a long day. By day, she is a visual merchandising manager at Anthropologie and is half of the print design duo called Rue + Jane which is sold there. You can see more of her work on Squarespace and purchase prints on Etsy. You can also contact her to make a custom painting of your favorite pet! Despite her busy schedule, we were fortunate to get an interview with the beautiful, talented Lauren Carlson Walcott! (See below)

Influenced by Stephen Gammell’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, a Seattle based artist who goes by the name of Wednesday Wolf has put a ghoulish twist on some of Pop Culture’s most iconic characters. Cartoons, video game characters, and superheroes are weakened as WW re-mixes them with stringy limbs and morose faces. The macabre, drooping figures are done with watercolors and the collection is extensive, with many of his own character creations. WW draws on the skills taught to him by his father who is a computer programmer, to market himself online, allowing him to be a full time artist. He is also arranging a musical accompaniment to his art exhibits by putting a punk band together. [Read more…]
