If you were around San Francisco in the 90′s, it was impossible to escape the colorful, joyous parties of the exploding rave scene. The influence these massive parties had was world wide, still reverberates today and for many was a life changing experience. Now the creative crew at MoFilms.org are working on a full length documentary, focusing on the people that experienced those events firsthand and had their lives shaped by the hopeful, yet often misunderstood movement.

Intimate Time Lapse Journal Paintings

Bryce Wymer, a visual artist based in Brooklyn, New York, creates visual journals that pop from the page with bold color and composition. Making both detailed drawings and layered paintings in his small Molskine sketchbooks, he has recently started documenting the process in time laps video. He says his personal works “address human social progression and the driving relation between the powerful and the powerless.” He currently works as a freelance creative director, a title which he says includes live action, graphic design, illustration, fine art, 2D animation and post production work. Mark Visser Rides Big Waves at Night!

Just last night Australian surfer Mark Visser made other big wave riders look like they could step up their game, challenging giant waves in inky black darkness. With a custom-built lighted surfboard and floatation vest, Visser was towed into the famous Maui surf at 2am and professionally rode the 15 foot breaking wave. The Evolving Surface of a Fractal Planet

A grey planet revolves, it’s surface constantly changing texture and shape. Valleys form, mountains sprout out of flat surfaces… such is the creative work of Tom Beddard. An ex-physicist, he likes to make home-brew programs that generate interesting math based images and shapes.

Our Mr. Sun is a campy scientific video from 1956 expounding on the many wonders of our galaxy’s very own star. Combining live action with animation, it features creative infographics describing the influence of the sun on humankind. Check out the graph of population growth at 35:15 and new ideas about solar technology. We’ve come a long, long way.

The film was originally telecast in 1956 and 1957 to 9 million homes; some 600 16mm prints were distributed to schools and community organizations.

When Reddit and NASA Footage Collide

NASA fan and Redditor, Reid Gower got frustrated recently with how the hugely inspirational organization has such poor public relations and media. His respose? To make an all out, goose bumps all over your body, video promoting the work of NASA and featuring the much missed voice of Carl Sagan. No, this isn’t an official NASA video… this is pure NASA love.

Quite a story has developed around this video too, spawning other remixes of NASA footage as space exploration fans attempt to create the media they want to see. We share some of those videos here.

Painting Walls with Supakitch & Koralie

Supakitch & Koralie are a French urban art power duo with polished painting skills. Their work is heavily influenced by Japanese art, and while most of their art is found on urban streets, their work has also migrated inside to serene gallery walls. Here we share a video of the two painting a wall at the Museum of World Culture in Göteborg, Sweden. The piece is part of their Metroplastique project.
