Will your next flying trip be more like going on a luxurious cruise? Aeros, a modern day airship company, is in the midst of testing their gigantic new Aeroscraft which the company plans to use to transport passengers, cargo and for military applications. You only get a sense for the scale of this “subscale demonstration version” when you notice the parked truck in the picture above… and yes you read that correctly, this is a “small” test version of what they plan to build next – a series of 3 Aeroscraft models ranging from 310 to 787 feet and lifting 20 to 500 tons! Busy Auckland Transport Visualized on a Monday

As Chris McDowall rode the Auckland Public Transportation system in his home of New Zealand, he often imagined how all the busses, trains and ferries would appear carving their daily path from above. He would try to visualize the varied trajectories of each vehicle as they zig-zagged through the complex network… and it’s no surprise that he admits, “after a few moments I would get hopelessly overwhelmed and go back to reading my book.” Thankfully for McDowall and the rest of us, Auckland Transport published its Google Transit Feed data to MAXX, giving all the information needed to create an animated visualization of the network over a typical busy Monday. Nearly everyone in the U.S. spends a large amount of time getting from here to there, but what fuels this transportation habit? Not just fuel, but cold hard cash. This graphic looks at both high and low spending in cities around the states, based upon user data from the excellent banking website mint.com (where they found that the average user spends $177 per month on fuel). Ads have been inside the trains and stations but for only the second time ever a full-length ten-car subway train will be completely covered in advertising.

The Stockholm Subway Takes Art Underground

Considered one of the most beautiful metro’s in Europe, the Stockholm subway system is filled with eye popping art and bright colors… a perfect cure for the proverbial Stockholm Syndrome. Each stop presents riders with a different visual feast as if they have been transported to a new magical underworld.

The metro has 100 stations of which 47 are underground. Construction of the large system began in 1941 with the last station opening in 1994. Some of the cavernous interiors where left with crude bedrock exposed, others have been tiled or even embedded with Romanesque statues. If you’ve ever visited this colorful underground land, the envious crew here at Visual News would love to hear about it!
