To the delight of fans of epic fantasy fiction stories and grand blockbuster HBO productions (or people who’ve just grown to adore Peter Dinklage), Game of Thrones has returned to television for its third season. We and the good people at Double Neat have been chronicling the return with our special menu of cocktails inspired by iconic characters from the show – you can check out past posts here and here . For our third installment, we tackle the wily bunch beyond the walls of the Seven Kingdoms called the Wildings. It’s only a matter of 26 episodes before the phenomenon that is Mad Men ends… so it’s only appropriate to reflect a bit on how the show has effected our culture. Because of the gorgeously styled and expertly acted mid-century series, we’ve seen endless artistic tributes, design influences, and throwback fashions. Television shows can be seriously addicting, drawing us in each week as new episodes about our favorite characters are put on the air. Some TV characters get so familiar in fact, they almost seem like family – we know just how they act in certain situations, thinking things like “oh, that’s such a Homer Simpson thing to do.” But how well do we really know the lives of the characters we love to watch? If you walked into their house would you be able to find your way around? Spanish artist and interior designer Iñaki Aliste Lizarralde has been creating highly detailed house plans for many of our favorite shows, giving us an overhead view of the places which house many of our favorite scenes. You remember Wonkavision from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, right? Well that portal like ability to reach in and manipulate things inside your television has just become reality… or pretty close. Media student Jayne Vidheecharoen from the Art Center College of Design in California has designed a prototype TV that converts physical hands into virtual ones when users put them in the back of the television, allowing them to manipulate what’s on the screen. Kyle Hilton, a talented illustrator from Jackson, Mississippi has been creating a new paper doll based on his favorite TV characters each week.
