“Drive for Free. Forever. On Sunlight.” Don’t worry, you read that right. If you haven’t heard of Tesla Motors, your ears will be ringing with the name soon. The revolutionary California based company has been changing the face of the automotive industry one step at a time, and they’re doing it with electric cars. Now, in perhaps the most stunning move yet, they have introduced Supercharger, an electric car charging system which promises to eliminate all the major concerns about owning an electric car. The Future of Footwear? Wild, Printed High Heels

Thursday 07.12.2012 , Posted by

When it comes to the future of footwear, you might just be looking at it. Using the exoskeletons of marine invertebrates, fantasy creatures and insects as the inspiration for her appropriately named Exoskeleton collection, Janina Alleyne has 3D printed some near impossibly complex heels very deserving of the term haute couture. The many layered construction of her artistic (and questionably functional) pieces make normal shoes look positively simple in comparison: printed lacing holes, floating top-sole elements and a plethora of near impossible to mold elements highlight the fantastic, if a bit creepy shoes. The Smallest Font? DNA Letters on a Nanometer Scale

Monday 06.25.2012 , Posted by

Have you ever found yourself needing to pack a lot of text into a small space? Are you a designer with a project requiring loads of fine print? Fear not, typography on a nanometer sale is here. Scientists at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts have recently created a series of glyphs made entirely out of microscopic fragments of DNA, woven together like building blocks. By leaving out specific blocks they’ve been able to create letters, numbers and even symbols like smileys and an eagles head. Here we bring you brilliant science journalist Ed Yong’s post, created entirely out of the miniscule font: “DNA Sans anyone?” [Read more...]

These increasing numbers show no sign of stopping, and within the next few years most of us will have at least two devices — like Smartphones and tablets – connected to public Wi-Fi networks. This greater availability of public Wi-Fi also brings unseen hazards for users to look out for: hackers. [Read more...]

I dare you not to love this new ad from Honda South Africa. Created in the same wrapping animated style as the overwhelmingly beautiful music video for Danger Beach’s Apache, the short piece looks at the storied and successful history of Honda and their many products. Instagram Logo Comes to Life

Monday 05.14.2012 , Posted by

The combination of a polaroid camera and Instagram may be the dream of hipsters everywhere… and with a little luck that dream might become a reality. A marketing and communication studio called ADR Studio has created a concept design of an Instagram camera. They call it the Instagram Socialmatic. The camera would be a 16GB WIFi enabled camera that looks just like the Instagram logo. The concept features a flat 4:3 touch screen, WiFi and bluetooth function for instant sharing to Facebook, Led flash and optical zoom, two camera lenses for regular and filter shots, and even a 4 color printer for the polaroid fans out there. The printed images would include a QR code for connecting to photographer’s Instagram profile. The printed images also would have a sticky strip (like a post-it) to enable sticking it up wherever you please. [Read more...]

20,000 years from now, what will the future generations of archeologists be digging up? I mean, what the heck are they going to think of USB cables and iPads? [Read more...]

Introducing Touchy, A Human Camera from Japan

Thursday 05.03.2012 , Posted by

Touchy is a camera that is placed on one’s head and only takes photos when the person wearing the camera is physically touched. Every time a person makes contact with the person wearing the camera head, it will open its shutter like eye-holes and take photos. If the person keeps holding on to the touch of that person, then the camera will take a shot every ten seconds. [Read more...]

Game Changer: Camera Creates 3D Rooms in Minutes

Wednesday 04.11.2012 , Posted by

When it comes to the task of creating 3D images of interiors, complete with furniture and a myriad of colors and textures, the job until now has been highly labor intensive. Now, a new system called Matterport is doing that same job in only a matter of minutes, and making it almost as easy as using a point and shoot camera. The devise, based closely on the Xbox Kinect (in fact the prototype was literally this), uses twin lenses on a hand held unit which connects to a laptop. By simply walking around the room and “painting it,” a mass of depth and color information is collected and interpreted into a 3D environment. [Read more...]
