1950′s Disney Live Models Combined with Cartoon

Sleeping Beauty

Long before computer animation, in the old, magical, early days of Disney, animators used a rotoscope to draw over live-action film. Frame by frame, the artists would trace over the actors and actresses that enacted each scene. Retronaut dug up some of these old images from Disney movies and it’s amazing to see the actresses that played our beloved princesses like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella. Disney Princesses In Accurate Period Costume

Most of the world seems familiar with the famous Disney princesses, from Snow White to Pocahontas their likenesses are burned into our memory, fan or not. What makes them so iconic? Many would argue it was their lavish and flowing costumes, based on historical fashion. But just how correct are those period fashionable dresses? Claire Hummel, an illustrator with a passion for historically accurate costuming recently reworked many of the famous ladies, giving them new garb fitting a stylish member of their periods society. It’s the childhood dream of many girls to become a Disney princess… and now photographer Ryan Astamendi is giving a few grown women the chance. His series of surprisingly accurate photographs puts models into pitch perfect costume, makeup and hair to create what looks like the movie screen come to life.
