Is That a Dinosaur Over That Hill? A Photographer’s Son Stars in Fantastic Adventures

Thursday 08.08.2013 , Posted by

David Niles Nates Adventure 1

See over that hill there? If you go far enough, there are Dinosaurs! That seems to be the message behind David Niles’ photo series called Nate’s Adventures. It’s a lot like Calvin and Hobbes photographed with a bellows camera and printed as a daguerreotype… the vintage look imagines a Land of the Lost style world full of UFOs, gigantic vegetables, trips to the moon and, yes, dinosaurs. It’s just the kind of thing to make our imaginations run wild with fantastic dreams we haven’t had since being children. [Read more...]

Hugh Kretschmer photo manipulations 1

Strap on those feet and let’s go trekking! What at first seems impossible, quickly becomes easy in Hugh Kretschmer’s bizarre photo manipulations. Feet grow laces like a pair of hiking boots, as do a pair of fist like boxing gloves; star shaped cookies become throwing stars, deeply embedded in a paper target; and auto mechanics become tools just like everything else hanging from the wall. Alright, humor us and read this in your best movie trailer voice: “This summer, two lovers experience the wedding of their dreams. It’s a love fit for the silver screen, coming soon to a chapel near you.” That’s kind of the gist behind the wedding of Josh Watson and Rachel Van Der Merwe that took place recently… and more importantly the movie style announcements. With the help of Jordan Kapono Nakamura they remixed a few famous movie posters to announce their wedding and reception… creating such perfect likenesses they even fool Google image search! Books Covers with One Letter Missing 5

After a bit of a hiatus, #bookswithalettermissing started trending again on Twitter. Here, book lovers celebrated their favorite literary works by remixing/erasing part of the title and following the hashtags’ self-explanatory instructions: get rid of just one letter. Before long Twitter was awash with ‘new’ books to be enjoyed all ever again: The Da Vinci Cod and Jurassic Ark, were notable examples. [Read more...]

It Came from Outer Space! Bizarre Photo Manipulations

Tebe Interesno Photo Manipulations 4

A massive nuclear submarine lurks nearby, floating silently as it stealthily watches the massive oceans below. Wait… did we say below? A talented Russian Photoshop-er going by the name Tebe Interesno (“are you interested?”) has been whipping up some highly interesting photo manipulations, often involving the space programs of the US and former USSR. We see the Space Shuttle riding a broom into orbit (read that how you like), a long necked dinosaur showing up behind an astronaut on the moon (hoaxers rejoice!), and a ghost-like creature giving some much needed water to a dry part of the planet. How Would Planets Look if They Replaced the Moon?

Ron Miller Other Planets as the Moon 2

It’s easy to forget that the moon is a real place. We look up at the familiar orb in our sky and see it as a flat, lighted disk with dark grey patches (and a face if we use our imagination). Perhaps it’s the fact that the moon is so small in our sky that we have to wait for a “super moon” to even get excited about it orbiting our planet. Now let’s use our imagination a little: what if the planets of our solar system were in place of the moon? It would be hard to forget Jupiter floating that close – it’s around 11 times the size of Earth! [Read more...]

Dogs Dressing Up Like Their Owners

Dogs-Dressed-as-Their-Owners 1

It’s happened to all of us: walking down the street with their shaggy dog is an equally shaggy owner… maybe the fuzzy duo even had the same hair color. Surprisingly often, dog owners closely resemble their canine companions, and Bern Switzerland-based photographer Sebastian Magnani is showing us just how close. His wacky collection of photoshopped portraits captures dog owners and then splices their dog’s face into their clothes, complete with human hairdos. Some show a hilarious likeness! [Read more...]

Magic Movie Moment Paintings by Alice X Zhang

Thursday 06.06.2013 , Posted by

Alice X Zhang 1- The Dark Knight

For every great movie, there are several memorable scenes that remain etched in our minds forever. Designer/illustrator Alice X. Zhang has a knack for choosing these magic moments and bringing them to life with her unique style of digital painting. A self-proclaimed “artistic fangirl” she recreates captivating scenes with an astonishing use of color for this series called Moments. Though she makes it look easy, these pieces can take over 4 hours, so don’t be fooled into thinking that she has a “magic brush set” on Photoshop. As you can see in the time lapse video of Alice digitally painting a Sherlock Holmes piece at the bottom of this post, she navigates Photoshop like a boss. [Read more...]

How fast is that doggy in the window? You might wonder while looking at these incredibly imaginative photoshop masterpieces by blogger Benjamin Grelle, aka The Frogman. Just as dogs love riding in the car with their heads out the window on the highway, they are shown enjoying space travel at warped speeds. With their gums and tongues flapped back, the dogs appear to be smiling as they zoom through the universe. [Read more...]
