Although perceptions are changing, there are still many people who respond to your ache for a tattoo with “You’ll never get a job” or “no one will ever take you seriously!”

Just tell that to the beautiful, powerful people in tattoo artist Cheynne Randall’s series Shopped Tattoos, like a royally purple-haired Kate Middleton.

Just the thought of romance novels conjures up thoughts of the cringe-worthy images printed on their covers. From shirtless muscled men riding white horses, to passionately swooning women in period costume, it’s hard to find a cliche more hilariously worn. But what if those impossibly romantic scenes were replaced by the coin-collecting, dot-eating heroes from our favorite classic 8-bit games? Shutterstock sent their massive catalogue of images over to illustrator Echo Chernik, challenging him to create a Valentines series that would make any gamer feel romantic. [Read more...]

What if the Winter Olympics Were Happening in New York City?

New York Times Winter Olympics in New York City 1

What if instead of heading for Russia this year, the Winter Olympics were going down in good old New York City? After losing the bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics, the New York Times has imagined what it would look like if the city hosted the snowy version of the games instead… right in downtown Manhattan. As it turns out, the games would probably command more resources than even the Big Apple could pull together. [Read more...]

Dirds 1

If you have always wanted a dog, but hated the fact that they can’t fly, or wanted a bird that can wag its tail, then we have just the thing for you: dirds! Dirds, also known as birddogs, are an amusing new species so high in demand that you can’t find them at pet stores anywhere! The dog head/bird body variety offers that loyal, confidant aspect that you want in a dog and there are no front paws in the way of easy belly rub access. You can live out your pirate dreams with one of these bad boys on your shoulder. Be careful with which secrets you share with the parrot head/dog body variety because they just might let them slip. 1 aged Bob Marley

When a person dies young, we always wonder what they could have been, how the world would have been different if they were still alive, and what they would look like if they grew to an old age. Sachs Media attempts to answer these questions for some of the greatest rock musicians of all time. Was it their short lives that made their impact on the world so powerful or could they have done more if they had more time? Partnering with photomanipulation company Phojoe the media company created age progressions to show what rock legends Bob Marley, John Lennon, Dennis Wilson, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, ‘Mama’ Cass Elliot, Keith Moon, Bobby Darin, Karen Carpenter, Kurt Cobain, and Elvis would look like if they were alive today. The Renaissance classics are great, but they lack one thing: superpowers. For their most recent photoshopping contest, Worth1000 invited digital artists to insert superheroes into their favorite works of classic fine art. A baby Spiderman becomes the cherubic star of Caravaggio’s Amor Vincit Omnia. Venus slips into a sexy Wonder Woman costume with thigh highs as angels look on. Jacques-Louis David’s Male Nude known as Hector looks much different with a Captain America uniform on. See some of our favorite superheroes in a much different era. [Read more...]

Jennifer Greenburg Revisiting History 9

In her series Revisiting History, artist Jennifer Greenburg is replacing the individuals in vintage negatives she has found with the image of herself.I commandeer source material from someone else’s life thus taking over their memories to call my own,” she says. Her image is so seamlessly integrated with the original photograph that it is often impossible to decipher reality from fiction – which is exactly the point. [Read more...]

Make Like a Tree and Leaf! The Tree People by Marko Prelic

Tree People 8

I couldn’t help the cheap joke in the title, but these Photoshopped images from serbian photographer Marko Prelic are truly tasteful… if not a bit whimsical too. In each, we see a normal human figure, photographed in black and white, complete with a tree for their head. This unusual vision could have a number of symbolically tree-based meanings. Best of Both Worlds: 18 Gorgeous Examples of Half Underwater/ Half Surface Photography

1-Sean Davey

Ever since I was 5 years old, I have wondered what it would be like to be a mermaid- not the mockumentary morbid webbed-hand kind, but a Disney Princess daughter of Triton type like Ariel. The first time I saw it in the theaters, I cried at the end of The Little Mermaid and it gave me a lot of anxiety, fearing that I might grow up and fall in love with a Merman and be forced to choose between moving to the ocean with him- trading in my legs for fins and leaving my family behind on land- or losing my true love. Luckily I never found myself in that situation, but I have residually been obsessed with the ocean and its creatures. What an amazing, magical world, most of which remains as much of a mystery to us as outer space. This collection features works that are amphibious, catching a glimpse of the world underwater and above the surface at the same time. [Read more...]

Is That a Dinosaur Over That Hill? A Photographer’s Son Stars in Fantastic Adventures

Thursday 08.08.2013 , Posted by

David Niles Nates Adventure 1

See over that hill there? If you go far enough, there are Dinosaurs! That seems to be the message behind David Niles’ photo series called Nate’s Adventures. It’s a lot like Calvin and Hobbes photographed with a bellows camera and printed as a daguerreotype… the vintage look imagines a Land of the Lost style world full of UFOs, gigantic vegetables, trips to the moon and, yes, dinosaurs. It’s just the kind of thing to make our imaginations run wild with fantastic dreams we haven’t had since being children. [Read more...]
