Back to the Future Behind the Scenes 1

Watching today’s movies, you’re never quite sure if it’s real or if it’s computer generated. But that wasn’t the case a few years back, and these pictures from the three installments of Back to the Future really drive it home. Where would Marty McFly and Doc Brown be without a flying DeLorean, hoverboards and a souped up steam locomotive? Probably back in boring old 1985. [Read more...]

Strike A Pose: Cats Who Think They Are Pin Up Girls

1 catsthatlooklikepinupgirls06

We’ve seen cats doing their best Derek Zoolander, posing like hunky male models, and now it’s time for the female homologue. Hurly-Burly Clothing based in Perth Australia, an alternative/pinup/rockabilly/goth/punk clothing and accessory line, has compiled this hilarious collection pairing adorable cats with their pin-up girl twins. Back before the days of the internet, pin up girl posters were all the rage, kind of like cats are now, so why not combine them and have the best of both worlds? That’s what makes these pairs so perfect. [Read more...]

Des Hommes et Des Chatons Men and Cats 1

Did you ever think there was more to life than being really, really, really, ridiculously good looking? Yeah, neither did we. If there’s one segment of our society that knows it best, it’s muscle ripped male models. I mean, look at those poses! Giving a little lip bite; doing a little stretch; standing in the pouring rain… there isn’t a single place these dudes can’t look good. But, it’s come to our attention that they’ve got competition – and it wouldn’t be the internet if it wasn’t from cats! [Read more...]

Michael Paul Smith Forced Perspective Model Cars 1

Some guys never grow up. For example, I can’t walk by a Hot Wheels toy car display without coveting those tiny 4-wheeled machines – something about my youthful car lust comes back to me. Michael Paul Smith is doing something about it though. This model maker, collector and photographer has been creating inspired forced perspective shots using his small-scale vintage cars, making them look as real as a movie set – or reality for those who remember. Amazingly Realistic 3D Paper Craft Birds

John Scherft 3D Paper Birds 8

At first glance, and maybe even second, the birds in these images look real enough you don’t want to frighten them away. It’s a surprise then, when you find out that they are made entirely of flat pieces of paper, carefully folded and glued together to form precise replicas of real-life birds. Perhaps even more surprising, they aren’t even reproduced from photographs, but are hand-drawn on sheets of paper using tools as simple as colored pencil. [Read more...]

Vincent Tomczyk Paper Sculptures 1

You might be surprised if you plop down on the comfortable looking classic armchair pictured above; that’s because it’s made entirely out of thin sheets of paper. These exquisitely crafted sculptures from Los Angeles based artist Vincent Tomczyk seem to break all the rules of possibility, representing objects from a soft white dress shirt, to an iconic Eames chair with almost perfect accuracy. His gossamer creations are beautiful to behold. [Read more...]

Those Aren’t Mountains, It’s an Aquarium!

Tuesday 06.26.2012 , Posted by

What look like foggy landscapes from alien planets, or maybe even the moody landscapes in some Rococo era painting, are actually carefully planned images of aquariums. Artist Kim Keever takes fishtanks and using plaster and other materials crafts landscapes within. He then fills the tanks with water, sets up lighting and photographs his aquatic set while adding in powders which form clouds and fog. The results are stunningly surreal… and sometimes even very realistic. [Read more...]

A Fashionable, Retro-Futuristic World

Friday 03.18.2011 , Posted by

In an ambiguous universe stuck between the present, the future and the 50′s, beautiful people lead a fashionable yet melancholic existence. Current and yet to be invented technology mingle with mid-century modern furniture and design. Photographer Ben Sandler captures the mood perfectly in his new series “Tomorrowland,” a world that seems cut perfectly for a movie scipt the likes of Gattaca. For more of Sandlers subtly surreal work, see his website bensandler.com
