Data Visualization 101: Line Charts

In our Data Visualization 101 series, we cover each chart type to help you sharpen your data visualization skills.

Line charts are one of the oldest forms of data visualization, and it’s not hard to see why. Whether you’re tracking the fluctuation of stock prices or the popularity of different wine varieties, they give you an accurate and quickly understandable assessment of the trend, acceleration, deceleration, and volatility of the data in question.

Our Newest Data + Design Project: Line Charts May!

We are happy to announce that the May contributions for the Data + Design Project are now up for your viewing pleasure! Each month we’ve been challenging a select and much appreciated group of designers to create something unique and interesting following some very simple rules. This month we challenged 4 talented folks to use the line chart to express an area of interest, and what they came up with is nothing short of superb: engaging designs ranging from analysis of deep sea exploration, New Zealand sheep, Argentine earthquakes and the confounding science of microwaving a tasty hot pocket… all represented by the humble line.
