Letter from Fred 1

When a 96-year-old man named Fred recently entered a song writing contest, he admitted that he couldn’t sing and had never even played an instrument… but that didn’t stop him from submitting. He simply sent a letter with the song he’d written about his wife of 75 years. Lorraine had passed away just a month before, and Fred couldn’t help but write a fitting tribute to the woman he loved so much. His song is called Oh Sweet Lorraine. [Read more…]

Star Wars 01 Ralph McQuarrie Scrapbook

When it comes to movie logos (or franchises for that matter) there are few as iconic as the now classic Star Wars trilogy… but how well do we really know the design behind that logo? As it turns out, the famously “spacy” typography featured in the now familiar logo wasn’t finalized on all print media until a while after the first movies release, and some early versions slipped through becoming quite familiar in their own right. What if there was no such thing as privacy in the world. What if there was a group of people who had access to all your information. What might that group possibly do and how would the people react? This futuristic (and quite possibly realistic) situation is the heart of a new technological thriller yet to be filmed titled “Algorithm.” Developed by writer and filmmaker Jonathan Schiefer, the film revolves around a hacker-for-hire who discovers that the government is monitoring everything people are doing. He and his friends decide to fight back in full force. Does this story sound somewhat familiar? Edward Snowden has done something similar by becoming a whistle blower on the NSA, yet this story was written before the Snowden episode. Currently Schiefer and crew are looking for support in all ways, hoping to make their dream a reality and begin filming in San Francisco. [Read more…]

Cars We Love 1

Sometimes the stars of our favorite films aren’t just the kind walking on 2 legs… they’re often the ones with 4 wheels that act as the main focus of famous chase scenes. Take the iconic Batmobile for example. The famous “mobile” has made it through a number of renditions, from the sleek George Barris built custom from the early 60s to the big-wheeled Tumbler of today’s Christopher Nolan directed films. Each one has sparked the imagination of viewers worldwide, inspiring some to create artistic tributes to their iconic forms. Turkish photographer Cihan Ünalan is that kind of fan, and he’s currently making a series of images paying tribute to famous movie cars and “mobiles,” giving us a refined look at their fantastic designs. After months of working together, the actors become close, and even in the most serious cinematic scenes, there is bound to be laughter in between sets. Redditor Join_You_In_The_Sun gathered this awesome collection from some of these funny moments captured on camera. On the set of Kill Bill, Uma Thurman and Lucy Liu take a break from their sword fight to cheese it up. Enjoy this collection and if you’re on Reddit, give Join_You_In_The_Sun an upvote! [Read more…]
