What if the DeLorean in ‘Back to the Future’ was an Old Fiat?

Gerald Bear Unconventional Heroes 1

If Marty McFly tried speeding back to the future in an old Fiat 500 instead of a DeLorean, would he even make it to 88.8 miles per hour? It’s questionable. Graphic Designer/Illustrator Gerald Bear’s great new series, Unconventional Heroes, imagines a world where the cars in our favorite cult films and television are a lot less super… and far, far smaller. If All Movies Were Made in the Mid-Century, These Would Be the Posters

Laurent Durieux Retro Movie Posters 1

I would SO go to more movies if the posters looked like these! Imagine every film existed in some time-suspended mid-century wonderland; the posters might look a lot like these exquisite remakes from Laurent Durieux. His perfect images capture movies from yesterday and today, all rendered with a delicious illustrative style that harkens back to the streamlined sensibilities of Raymond Loewy with the sci-fi imagination of H.G. Wells. Laurent creates posters caught in a perfect, Pleasantville-esque world, where days are sunny, and the good guys are really good. [Read more...]

Romance with Dog Chris Naka 2

Chris Naka has been reenacting famous romance movies with his boss’s dog. Yeah, we know that sounds suspect… but the results are hilarious, and hilariously awkward.

“My boss brings her dog Wrigley to work every day, and for the past month we’ve been reenacting romance scenes from movies. It all started with a stupid Titanic photo, but things escalated quickly…”

lifeaquatic1

You’ve seen these movies before, but never like this. Finding themselves with a house full of cardboard boxes from their recent international move, and a new-ish baby, this couple have been creating scenes from their favorite films built entirely from their “favorite domestic junk”. Look closely and you’ll spot plastic cutlery as teeth, overturned shelving as boats and a ridiculous amount of family creativity. [Read more...]

Stop-Motion LEGOs: An Amazingly Accurate Remake of ‘The Blues Brothers’ Legendary Mall Car Chase

Wednesday 12.04.2013 , Posted by

Bricktease Blues Brothers

When it comes to old-school movie chase scenes, there are few that match the epic destructiveness of the classic mall car chase from The Blues Brothers. Similarly, there are few classic toys that have quite stood the test of time like LEGO. That’s just one part of why this creation from Australian stop-motion animator Duncan McConchie is so incredibly cool. It’s matched nearly frame for frame with the original film and features the same cool dialogue from John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd at their very best. [Read more...]

be different giffon6

Barcelona-based illustrator and architect Federico Babina has a passion for combining his dual professions. In his latest series, Archicine, he’s been recreating famous buildings from cinematic history. From the apartment block in Hitchcock’s Rear Window, to the purely digital house in The Incredibles, each is illustrated as a flat elevation against a solid field of color. Depending on which print you’re looking at, his minimalist homage to the silver screen is both aesthetically pleasing and funny. [Read more...]

The Storied Evolution of the Star Wars Logo

Star Wars 01 Ralph McQuarrie Scrapbook

When it comes to movie logos (or franchises for that matter) there are few as iconic as the now classic Star Wars trilogy… but how well do we really know the design behind that logo? As it turns out, the famously “spacy” typography featured in the now familiar logo wasn’t finalized on all print media until a while after the first movies release, and some early versions slipped through becoming quite familiar in their own right. truckster 3

With a name like Griswold, you’re bound to hear a few National Lampoon jokes going around. That was the case for one Georgia family… but they’re having the last laugh. Steve (not Clark) Griswold and his family are now the proud owners of a real-life Wagon Queen Family Truckster, the same amazing wagon from National Lampoon’s Vacation. Their first stop? Instead of hitting up the fictional Walley World, the family headed to Walt Disney World for their first outing. Don’t get stuck under a semi! [Read more...]

The Wheeled “Characters” of Our Favorite Cult Films

Jesús Prudencio Cars and Films 6

Every car has a character – from aggressive muscle cars to the family station wagon – but the cars with the most character are often found in the movies. Perfectly matched to the actor they accompany, these cars are often just as much a part of the cast as anyone else. Jesus Prudencio of Spain has been creating posters of these wheeled characters, and like our previous article on the movie Cars We Love, he’s been bringing each of the cars to life in superb fashion. Thumbs Up! Famous Films Without the Guns

Thumbs and Ammo 15

Sometimes in life, all it takes is removing one key ingredient to change the message… in fact, it sometimes completely reverses the original meaning. That’s the case in these great movie still remixes from the blog Thumbs and Ammo, where we are given a collection of shoot’em up moments with one element removed: the guns. Suddenly tough guys like Al Pacino’s Tony Montana in Scarface don’t look so tough… he’s just enthusiastically giving a thumbs-up. [Read more...]
