From June 3-7, 2014 the first official Israeli Burning Man event called “Midburn” took place in the heart of the Negev desert. While many Israelis participating at the gathering were familiar with the Burning Man event in Nevada, many had not been able to personally attend the Nevada Burn. Embrace: A Large-Scale Sculpture for Burning Man 2014

It’s less than four months until people from all around the planet gather together for Burning Man; and the artists bringing installations to the gathering are busy fundraising and building their creations for all to enjoy. The Pier Group, the artist collective which brought their namesake art installations The Pier and The Pier 2 in 2011 and 2012, are once again bringing an amazing large-scale sculpture to the gathering. Called “Embrace,” it is a 72ft tall wooden structure featuring two humans embracing to symbolize all of the relationships that are made during the week long event. [Read more...]

This year at Burning Man, there were over 350 registered art installations. One of the largest examples on the Playa was called the Cradle of Mir. It was constructed by a large crew consisting of artists, engineers, producers and enthusiasts with extensive experience organizing and participating in different Russian festivals, most broadly involved in “Pustye Holmi” (translated literally as Empty Hills), the festival of art, music and endless creativity. In just the past 100 years there have been genocides in countries such as Guatemala, Sudan, Burma and Somalia. Last year well known artistic welder Joe Beal had a dream. In his dream he imagined a heart with 4 arches shooting below to stand it up, while in the center a love swing hung from the bottom lit up in hot pink. Upon waking up, Joe knew what he had to do: build it and share it with the world. He got to work in his welding studio and with support from friends he created what became to be known as the “Dream Swing.” Happily, it was installed at a place where many people could interact and see it: The Burning Man gathering in the Nevada desert.
