In 2007, Jeremy Marie of Caen, France graduated from university, packed his bag and began a journey with the goal of hitchhiking around the world. On March 12, he finally arrived home after 5 years, 5 months and 5 days. In all of the 1,752 vehicles that gave him rides, he never once paid a single cent. Jeremy traveled 180,700 kilometers (112,282 miles) in over 100 countries and used many forms of transportation including boats, tractors, historic cars and camels. [Read more...]

A rich space tourist who earlier payed $20 million to visit the International Space Station, is now working to promote an even more ambitious project – a manned flyby around the planet Mars in 2018. Much like the Apollo 10 mission which proceeded the famous Apollo landing, this mission would be only intended to make a quick flyby of the red planet, in fact only spending about 10 hours at its closest point 100,000km above the planets surface. Artists from around the world have come to create the 23rd ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden. Organized by the ICEHOTEL art & design group, the only building material used is 1,000 tons of pure ice and 30,000 cubic meters of snow extrapolated from the frozen water of a river. In addition there was some support from thin metal frames that helped with some of the weight of the ice. While it is a place for guests to come, wine, dine and stay, it also serves as a large scale art exhibition. [Read more...]
We in the western world take healthy cooking completely for granted. You turn the knob on your stove and magically gas or electricity heats the food before you. Many people in the world aren’t that lucky however: much of the worlds population still use indoor wood stoves of questionable design. They pump smoke into the surrounding air, use many more trees than necessary and eat up the income of people already living on the edge. Now, the organization Enlace is working to bring smart and simple eco-stove designs to the people of world, beginning their life saving mission in El Salvador. They call the project Cooking Up Love. Google announced today that it has gotten into the hiking game… and they’re making it a lot easier for those who would rather go there by armchair. Today they released an extensive trail based tour the majestic Grand Canyon. Just like Google Street View, you can now cruise down over 75 miles of trails including the famous Bright Angel and Kaibab Trail. It’s a far sight easier than pulling on those old hiking boots.
