Wild Car Wrecks From the Golden Age of the Automobile

Monday 06.25.2012 , Posted by

For the younger generations it might be hard to imagine a time before seat belts, airbags and crumple zones were standard features in cars, but it wasn’t really that long ago. These astounding photos capture the golden age of the automobile around Boston Massachusetts in the 1920s and 1930s, showing the aftermath of car wrecks in the simple yet speedy cars of the era. At the time, cars had become affordable to the masses, but when you consider that people were not required to take a driving test of any sort, and drinking and driving was legal unless you were considered outright intoxicated, it’s not surprising that these wild wrecks happened frequently. Your Favorite Movies Remixed into An Audio Playground

Thursday 06.21.2012 , Posted by

It’s hard to get enough of these amazingly beautiful movie remixes from audio/visual master Pogomix. It’s not so much about the video here though, but more about the intricate audio collages remixed from the sounds in each film. Pogomix does this adeptly, creating electronic music which sweeps us away into a nostalgic sugar high, reminding us of our youth and tickling our ears with smooth sine wave bass. He’s taken such hits as Hook, Harry Potter and about every Disney Princess movie, and created extremely catchy tunes using sounds from the films. [Read more...]

The Tiny World of the Eurasian Harvest Mouse

Thursday 06.14.2012 , Posted by

These little mice might be the most endearing little creatures out there. Known as the Eurasian Harvest Mouse, they are the smallest european rodent – only about half the size of a normal house mouse – and live in fields of tall grasses and cereal crops like oats and wheat. Their long tails are prehensile, giving them the ability to wrap around their playground-like living space and climb high into the air. They build circular nests and raise their young, unlike other mice, regurgitating food into their mouths much like birds. French photographers Jean-Louis Klein & Marie-Luce Hubert spent a year and a half with the cute little creatures, capturing the intricacies of their community in an astoundingly intimate way.
