Photo sharing sites have now turned the ugliest cat pictures into something that could be passed off as art. Filters are infiltrating our lives and making everything around us look nostalgic and campy. If you own a smartphone, you’ll know that the power of the camera in your handheld device is 10x better than handheld cameras were just a few years ago. This means we now all have the ability to take fantastic photos in regards to the quality of the photo. But, while technology and the Internet allow us to share our lives seamlessly to the world, convenience should never trump true creativity. Amazing Shortlist for Sony Photography Awards

The shortlist is in for the 2012 Sony Photography awards. There were 122,000 entries submitted to the World Photography Organization from photographers in 170 countries. Since the deadline on January 4th, it was just over a month until the shortlist was revealed. With subjects such as travel, nature and wildlife, sport and current affairs, the competition is one of the most prestigious in the world. [Read more...]

Story on a Wall by Street Artist Mobstr

Mobstr is a street artist based out of the United Kingdom who has incorporated the city’s clean up crew or “buff-men” into his art. One of his latest works “The Story” does exactly that. Mobstr picks a place to write a sentence, which is then painted over in time to preserve the local cities aesthetic. He then spray paints another part of the sentence, it gets painted over and the story continues. For those that missed it (and considering the massive impact few could), a huge meteorite hit earth last week in Russia. In the land of the dash camera, videos far and wide captured the very rare event in its full shining glory – a missile like streak through the sky and an incredible window breaking crash following soon after. For the Russian population the event was one that stirred memories of the not so distant past, one of the tree flattening Tunguska event in Siberia just over 100 years ago. Ice Hotel in Sweden Showcases its Design for this Year

Artists from around the world have come to create the 23rd ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden. Organized by the ICEHOTEL art & design group, the only building material used is 1,000 tons of pure ice and 30,000 cubic meters of snow extrapolated from the frozen water of a river. In addition there was some support from thin metal frames that helped with some of the weight of the ice. While it is a place for guests to come, wine, dine and stay, it also serves as a large scale art exhibition. [Read more...]
