Back in the late 30s and early 40s the US Government spent an unprecedented amount of money furthering the arts as an effort to boost the economy during the Great Depression. Out of the Federal Arts Project branch of the Works Progress Administration came some of the most beautiful posters ever created for our National and State Parks, screen printed in the art deco stylings of the day. A Delightful, Hand-Drawn Map of New York City

Following 3-months of research and hard work, British illustrator Jenni Sparks has created a fantastic hand-drawn map featuring the lovely city of New York. The piece repeats the talents we saw in her earlier effort creating a map of London, with this version perhaps even surpassing that fine work. Bold lines trace her 3D renditions of the city’s famous architecture, from the Flat Iron building to the Empire State Building; and locations like Union Square to Central Park. [Read more...]

Compendium of Shapes You Forgot From Geometry Class

The folks over at Pop Chart Labs have done it again, producing another extensive, poster-based charting of beautiful information. This time though, rather than focusing on beer breweries or even celebrity hairstyles, they are getting geometric. Their new florescent design, The Synoptic Scheme of Shapes, points out just how much we all slept through geometry class… or maybe it just shows how much fun shapes can be when you aren’t getting tested later.
