Sculpted Clay Paintings Show Universal Connectedness
I was first introduced to Arnaud Ramde at a live music venue in NYC through a dear friend of mine. Like all of the people I have met from Burkina Faso, he emanated a calm, comforting, positive energy; an obvious contentment with life that is uncommon in the Western world. He seemed to have an understanding of the universe and the love that connects us all. When I first saw his art, it was like he had found the way to express all of this knowledge and share it with the world. Using a mixture of homemade clay and acrylic paint for color, Ramde brings a canvas to life with unique texture and dimension in a practice he calls “Vie Nenga” which is French for “Life Figures.” His sculpted paintings express a universal truth- the value of family, love, and work. UK Road Safety Posters from the WWII Blackout
During the German bombing raids of WWII city dwellers in Britain were subjected to long nights of complete darkness to protect them from being spotted from above. These road safety posters from the period (1939 – 1946) point out some of the hazards people needed to watch out for as they tried their best to “keep calm and carry on.” [Read more...]
Visionary Revelations by Amanda Sage
I was absolutely enthralled with the works of Amanda Sage at Burning Man’s Fractal Nation gallery, where I spent much of my time that week. Some of her paintings felt like images lifted from my thoughts and dreams. A few days after I first saw her work, I had the pleasure of meeting Amanda Sage and sharing our visions, which turned out to be very similar. Using the internet she has connected with like-minded artists involved in the growing visionary movement all around the globe. She shares her gift with others through teaching in a five day intensive called ‘Painting with Light’, which she has held in Colorado, Chicago, and Vienna. [Read more...]

Interactive: Exploring Abstract Artist Connections
Today it’s easy to take for granted the massive shift abstract art had on the art world and society as a whole. It’s easy to forget that at one time “realism” was par for the course and even the expressionists made sure you could identify the objects in their works. Then, just a little over 100 years ago, abstract artists appeared on the scene forever changing what could be considered art. This interactive visualization by New York’s Museum of Modern Art explores the similarly forgotten fact that many of the first abstract artists where highly connected to one another.
