After fleeing his birthplace to escape the civil war, Vedran Misic and his family relocated from Sarajevo, Bosnia to New York City in 1994. He was old enough to remember the horrors of grenade showers and shootings outside which kept him and his family inside of their apartment building, unable to go to school. Experiencing the terror of war made Misic particularly drawn to Gandhi’s non-violent teachings and through art he found a way to “express [his] emotions tied to the war memories and the culture shock of [his] new life and in America.” His latest series of illustrations are colorful portraits, done in marker, dedicated to admirable heroes who spent their lives uniting people, the first two being Gandhi and Bob Marley. I’m beginning to get jealous of all the cool toys that kids these days have to play with- particularly this new invention by WobbleWorks that will be available in October of this year. As a kid of the 90′s I thought I was pretty cool with my vibrating Squiggle Wiggle Writer and Magic Copier but with this new 3Doodler, you can create 3D sculptures as easily as you could make a drawing. The innovative new toy makes it affordable for the average person to have a device with 3d printing capabilities. Invented and created by experienced robotics and toymakers Peter Dilworth and Maxwell Bogue, the device melts ABS plastic (like most 3D printers) and it dries instantly when it hits the air. With his trusty blue bic pen, Erik de Haan creates intricate drawings- many of which become tattoos. The 38 year old artist from the Netherlands has been drawing for as long as he can remember, but after his travels around the world- to Central America, Meico, Thailand and Laos- are constantly impacting his approach to art. Thailand particularly left a lasting impression on his style and he returned several times, then ventured to Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore. Sometimes when we see amazing art it’s easy to just think “oh that person must be really gifted” but this progression gives hope that maybe anybody can create beautiful art if they are willing to put in the effort. Marc Allante has been making art since he could pick up a crayon and shared with Reddit an album showcasing a piece of art from almost every year from age 2 to his current 25 years of age. Each year his art grows a little more technical and then diverges into his unique style. Trading cards always take me straight back to my childhood; I was a huge fan of Garbage Pail Kids and Baseball. But with the juiced up athletes of today’s world, kids are better off admiring these monster creatures from the Land of Kaiju. Created by illustrator Chet Phillips “explores the world of humongous mutants and irradiated creatures with his own collection of Japanese-styled monsters on trading cards, prints and a limited edition book.” Each card features a picture of the monster on the front and important information, such as place of origin, physical traits, and history on the back.
