Aldrin’s Earth-Mars Cycler In Lego Form

Saturday 11.17.2012 , Posted by

Buzz Aldrin has been working with engineers from Purdue University to transform his ideas for an Earth-Mars Cycler into reality. The astronaut predicts that by 2030 the first astronaut explorers will take missions to Mars lasting 5 years or longer to observe the planet, which would be followed by colonizers, permanent settlements, and eventually attempts to terraform the red planet and create a habitable Earth-like atmosphere. In 2005, Aldrin told Popular Mechanics, “The Cycler system alters the philosophy behind a Mars program. It makes possible the dream of regular flights to the Red Planet and a permanent human presence there. That’s the only way we’ll ever succeed in taking mankind’s next giant leap: a subway-in-the-sky between our planet and our future second home.” Lego aficionado Andrew Becraft has created his own rendition of the Aldrin Mars Cycler. Sometimes with our ambitions we forget to stop and smell the roses. You may not know but Jessica Czeck and I drove 15,000 miles in 6 months around the USA in the Visual News Van (see the image of the van at the bottom of the post). On this trip we met many artists and people of all different walks. I learned so much about myself that I never thought I could. Jessica expanded my mind beyond what I could even think was there. She has been so patient with me and I would have never thought I deserved to be loved so much. [Read more...]

Many artists use marijuana to get the creative juices flowing while making art, but Brazilian Artist Fernando De La Rocque literally uses it in his creations. By blowing cannabis smoke onto precut stencils, the artist makes sepia images of religious and political icons. With his controversial work, De La Rocque shares his opinion that the substance should be decriminalized, stating, “more important than freedom to smoke marijuana is the freedom to think about it and make art with it.” [Read more...]

Live Like You Mean It!

Saturday 11.10.2012 , Posted by

In this world, too many of us are not living the life of our dreams because we are too concerned with planning our future. Looking at how retired people, who are still in good health, live their lives is a good example of what truly matters in life: relationships, fun, and travel. Photographer Ana Galan was inspired by the older folks who live in the moment, so she started a project called Viv(r)e la Vie! She decided to photograph ten elderly couples who remain active by dancing, in a profile shot with a country background, in various cities around the world. [Read more...]

Inspired by his love for nature and animals, Kisung Koh paints whimsical worlds where cuddly creatures and mysterious spirits roam around on splashes of color. Koh was born in Korea and relocated to Canada in 2006 to complete his BAA in illustration at Sheridan College in Ontario. Koh states, “In my paintings, I always think I should be integrated with nature and animals as I put myself into each painting and I want to share my thought and connect with people through my works. As I see, feel, and hear animals, I also find more of myself.” [Read more...]

The Essence of Being: Spiritual Photomanipulation

The moment I saw these incredible works of art, I was immediately transplanted back to Fractal Nation at Burning Man. Cameron Gray’s art is like a new wave, digital version of Alex Gray’s astounding collection. His images capture what I believe to be the essence of existence. Cameron Gray seems to be tapping in to a porthole that many have never experienced. From what I’ve seen, the majority of visionary art is made up of loving beings with good intentions; nothing to be feared. [Read more...]

Elephants: An Enormous Carbon Pencil Mural

Upon first looking at this impressive mural, one might think that it was created with paint, but this highly detailed piece was done entirely in carbon pencil. Adonna Khare created a whimsical world where animals live in harmony around 5 happy elephants. From afar it is easy to see the elephants, gorillas, and chimps, but upon closer examination, miniature versions of many other animals can be seen. Khare’s mural looks like a page out of an I SPY book where the longer you look at it the more you will discover. [Read more...]

On His High Horse: Super-Sized Stallion Sculpture

Sunday 11.04.2012 , Posted by

A horse is a horse, of course, and to pay an homage to this majestic creature, Nic Fiddian Green has made quite a grand gesture. The sculptor has made numerous horse sculptures inspired by his chestnut hunter George. The sculptures feature horse heads, made of bronze, that are the size of buildings. They are so large that they need to use a cherry picker to reach the top and clean them. Fiddian Green’s horse heads have become prominent London landmarks and he has said, “It is a great honour that Westminster city council have made this a permanent work of art for the city.” [Read more...]
