Mexico is a fairly large country in the world and there are many interesting places to visit. Bordering the United States, many Americans come down to spend a weekend, week or just a night in this country so rich in culture. Many come to cruise familiar coastal cities such as Puerto Vallarta and Cancun, but there is a place that many do not know about unless they are already there. That place is called Tulum!
Tulum is a beach town just 80 miles south of the city of Cancun in the Yucatan Peninsula. Historically, it served as a place of trading for the Mayan civilization thousands of years ago, but now it is a place to come relax, soak up some sun and spend time on the beach. It is not crowded like other Mexican coastal cities, it has a small town and provides a number of beach accommodations at which to stay. Whether you are looking for a yoga retreat, a rustic cabana or even camping near a bio-reserve, it is all there for you in Tulum.
Beautiful oceans, forests and underwater cenotes sprinkle the area known as the Mayan Riveriera. Cenotes are underwater caverns that were created by a massive meteor which hit the earth millions of years ago. Today, you can go swim and dive in them. Whether you want to adventure and be active or chill on a hammock all day with a fruity beverage in your hand, it is available here in Tulum.
Some good places to stay reasonably are the Playa Azul and Coco Tulum. It is good to make reservations in advance and plan to stay at least 4 days. It is a relaxing environment and it is only a short flight away if you live in the United States. It is a relatively calm area and so if you are looking for rest and relaxation and don’t want to travel over oceans to get there, check out Tulum.
From Tulum, you can easily travel by mini bus or car to many other beautiful spots. Belize, Lagoons, other Mayan temples and forests are all within 4 hours drive from Tulum. Happy traveling (and relaxing)!
