1% Map, by HowMuch.net

This Map Shows Where the Top 1% Lives in the U.S.

At times, the way the 1% of this country is portrayed or discussed in the media, these top earners are almost cartoonish. We think of them as stuffy billionaires who have lost all understanding of how much everyday life actually costs. To the 99%, these individuals have jobs that are so far into the depths of the finance industry that we think we’ll be trapped there if we think about it long enough. However, who these people are largely depends on what level you’re looking at them.

In the United States, the minimum household income of the “1% Club” is $521,411. But that changes when you break it down by county. The top 1% of each U.S. county makes for a much smaller pond and therefore transforms medium fishes into the biggest ones around. You can see how that changes in the map by HowMuch.net, which also put together the highest bracket counties and the lowest.
