Most of us know what a couple of glasses of wine makes us feel like, but how does it make us look? The Wine Project photo series from Brazilian photographer Marcos Alberti seeks to answer that question.
“There is a saying about wine that I really like and it’s something like this, ‘The first glass of wine is all about the food, the second glass is about love, and the third glass is about mayhem.’ I really wanted to see it for myself if that affirmation was, in fact, true,” Alberti says.
The concept was simple: Take portraits of subjects when they’ve had no wine, then photograph them again when they’ve had 1, 2, and 3 glasses. To get his subjects, Alberti invited his friends over.
“The first picture was taken right away when our guests had just arrived at the studio in order to capture the stress and the fatigue after … working all day long and also from facing rush-hour traffic to get here,” Alberti says. After each glass, he repeated the snapshots—keeping the photos simple to provide

“People from all walks of life, music, art, fashion, dance, architecture, advertising got together for a couple of nights and by the end of the third glass, several smiles emerged and many stories were told,” he says.
The result is 53 images that capture the merriment.
