Reddit user Join_You_In_The_Sun has been collecting a massive selection of movie posters with one criteria: they must have all their text removed. He recently shared two huge albums featuring everything from classics like The Exorcist and Enter the Dragon, to new and upcoming releases like Mad Max: Fury Road and The Martian.
The reason why these are cool is pretty obvious: without text these posters lose much of their intended advertising purpose, transferring that focus to the creative (and sometimes goofy) artwork hidden behind the typography.
The posters needed very different amounts of manipulation to remove the text. While some examples were designed from the beginning to have text frames (which in most cases still remain in the text-less version), others had to be largely reworked to add details hidden behind floating text.
