K is for Katniss, in The Hunger Games alphabet of course. But what about the other 25 letters? 21-year-old designer, illustrator and letterer, Risa Rodil has created an illustrative poster that really hits the mark, featuring letters with a distinctly Hunger Games twist.
Although she originally dreamed of being a dentist, Rodil discovered the beauty of visual design at a young age, and taught herself to use Photoshop at 14. She started creating “fangirl” art for her favorite shows and movies, grabbing attention from around the internet for her work.
“When these people start to notice and acknowledge the hard work you put into each piece, it feels very fulfilling. That was the time I realized that yes, this is something I’m willing to do for the rest of my life,” Rodil says.
Rodil has created a variety of pieces paying homage to The Hunger Games, but it’s just one of dozens of literary topics she’s covered in her work. Her clients include authors and publishing houses, especially in the Young Adult category.
“One thing I’ve known to myself ever since is that I am an ultimate fangirl. I love doing stuff for things I fangirl over, be that as my favorite book, TV show, movie or artist. And I noticed that the love I have for these things is usually the main lighter that fuels my creativity… Nothing makes me happier than to translate that love into something beautiful I can share to the rest of the fandom,” Rodil said.
