This Thursday, London’s Regent’s Park Underground station will be ‘turning the dark side into the art side.’ Ben Moore, founder of Art Below has teamed up with Andrew Ainsworth, the original creator of the Stormtrooper, to pay tribute to the iconic soldiers of the Galactic Empire. The project sees stormtrooper helmets left to the creative force of artists including Damien Hirst, David Bailey, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Mr Brainwash, Paul Fryer and Joana Vasconcelos… all putting their signature remix on the iconic form.
Art Wars was recently unveiled at the inaugural Strarta Art Fair at the wonderful Saatchi Gallery, and is next headed in billboard form to the entire platform of Regent’s Park Underground station as part of the Frieze art fair from October 17-20th). Riders who ‘mind the gap’ at the station will be treated to a free mobile app specifically created for Art Wars by artist Erin Ko, enabling them to explore the Stormtrooper billboards in 3D using their phones. See more about the project at artwars.net.
