As you shoot photos with your snazzy new Samsung Galaxy or iPhone 5, do you secretly long for the days of darkroom printing? Do you almost exclusively use the Inkwell filter when posting on Instagram? Are you a Lomography collector? If you even remotely wanted to answer “yes” to one of those questions, than this potential new gadget could be your dream come true. Called the Enfojer, it’s an old/new school photographic enlarger that creates real-life black and white prints using only your smart phone as the light source. Simple. Brilliant. I want one.
The Enfojer is the brainchild of four Croatian fellows who have put together the absolutely smart promo video below. Besides the catchy piano music we get to see the short 6 minute process of creating a print – from taking the photo, to exposing the print, to fixing it in the three chemical baths. 6 minutes? That’s far faster than popping your photos on a thumb drive and walking to K-Mart!
The Enfojer setup has some really cool features. One is that it comes with a dedicated app designed to perfectly expose each print. Another is that Ilford (my personal favorite photo paper company) has agreed to provide a steady stream of quality photo paper. But this only happens with your support. The crew behind this project is currently raising funds to mass produce their baby through Indigogo – with the goal of $100,000 yet to be reached. Check out their video below (no really, do it), then head to Indigogo to see the many options for support and purchasing.
