Look out Deadmau5 and Tiësto, there’s a new DJ in the house! The only thing better than looking at this awesome collection of paintings by Arotin Hartounian is imagining what the enlightened mixes of His Holiness might sound like. Hartounian, a California native, who often uses the canvas of Vans shoes for his art, has created a set of paintings of the Dalai Lama as we’ve never seen him before- scratching a turn table atop the Himalayas! See that familiar joyful face in pure bliss as he drops tracks that bring the world to enlightenment.

An original, signed edition of Arotin Hartounian’s brilliant Dalai Lama painting is available on Etsy, but I’m sure it won’t last long. He also sells customizable painted Vans shoes and denim jackets with quite an impressive collection. Check them out on Etsy.

He explains:

“As far as my memory takes me, I have seen art as the most magical thing anyone can ever do, to create a whole world out of an empty surface. The urge to express ideas and feelings through images is a human instinct that traces all the way back to our primative days. I have decided to devote my whole life to creating that kind of magic.”

For more of his work, head over to his blogspot and Tumblr.

  1. Being a Buddhist I looked at these painting and at first I was offended by his holiest the Dalai Lama portrayed in this way then I thought to myself I bet the Dalai Lama would laugh his ass off and want one of these paintings for himself.
