Artists from around the world have come to create the 23rd ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden. Organized by the ICEHOTEL art & design group, the only building material used is 1,000 tons of pure ice and 30,000 cubic meters of snow extrapolated from the frozen water of a river. In addition there was some support from thin metal frames that helped with some of the weight of the ice. While it is a place for guests to come, wine, dine and stay, it also serves as a large scale art exhibition.[see_also]
Each suite was designed by an artist or group and has its own unique features. The ice is shaped in all sorts of ways with many different tools ranging from irons, chainsaws, hand chissels, and heating implements. Guests sleep in thermal sleeping bags on a bed made of ice blocks covered with reindeer hides. The hotel also features a large dining hall and an Ice Bar, where guests and the general public from 10am-6pm can enjoy a beverage in glasses made of ice.
