Lord of the Rings Visualized: A Timeline of the One Ring

Timeline of The One Ring header

The world created by J.R.R. Tolkien is a complex one – filled with carefully crafted elven languages, detailed maps and a vibrant, detailed past. It’s not hard to get lost in the many events spanning his novels, so Emil Johansson of the LotrProject created a fantastic timeline based on the world’s most important event: the forging and fate of the One Ring.

The timeline features an arc shaped timeline starting with the forging of the ring and ending with its ultimate destruction in the Cracks of Doom. Below the arc, more detail is given to the many events that happened during the War of the Ring, including some details overlooked in the Peter Jackson films.

The LotrProject is a creative web-based project dedicated to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and largely featuring visualizations of the world he created. It features a massive genealogy of the characters, and a detailed map of Middle Earth. See more from the project, largely created by Emil Johansson, at lotrproject.com.
