If you are wondering where Santa is, just go to the beaches of Puri, India. World renowned sand sculpture artist Sudarsan Pattnaik and 30 of his pupils have constructed a massive sand installation featuring 500 Santas of all sizes and one big Jesus with a message to the world: “Go green, save earth.“
In an interview with the India Education Diary, Pattnaik says:
I always try to give some awareness messages through my sculpture to the world so I chose the awareness about global warming through Santas as the subject of the year end and I hope the sand sculpture of Santa clauses will place in the Limca Book of World Records.

Having set his own record in 2009 with one hundred sand sculpted Santa Clauses, it looks like Pattnaik is set to break the record and will keep it that way for a few years until he possibly finds inspiration to create even more. This record will add to his already long list of world records acquired. Through his art Pattnaik has helped victims of tsunamis and earthquakes in India, and raised awareness on the issues of endangered species and AIDS in his country. Below are some images from his latest work and some previous Santa sand sculptures. To see more of Pattnaik’s work, check out Sand India.
