You’ve seen movies like Super Size Me, Food Inc, and Forks Over Knives and know how a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is thought to be the best form of preventative healthcare. Maybe you’ve even begun to make the shift at the grocery store looking for natural foods to feed yourself and your family. But beware: knowing that there is a shift in the consumer market towards natural, organic foods, many corporations have deceptively labeled their packaging to trick consumers into buying their Genetically Engineered “natural” product.

On November 6th, Californians will be voting on Prop 37 which, if passed, will require food manufacturers to label raw or processed foods sold to consumers if they contain genetically modified ingredients and prohibit the use of the label “natural” on foods containing these GMOs. It is shocking to see how many of the most well known “healthy” brands are funding the fight against this consumer right to know.

Whether you live in California or not, you can vote with your money by using this guide to support the natural brands that promote Prop 37 and avoid the brands with something to hide. If Prop 37 passes in California, and companies are required to label products with Genetically Engineered ingredients, it is highly likely that manufacturers will use the same labels nationally. Food Democracy Now is also accepting donations to take on Monsanto and the giant corporate food companies.
