America has the most heavily armed citizens in the world, and when you look at the numbers you begin to understand their citizens are packing some serious heat. Since its conception, the Second Amendment — guaranteeing the “right to bear arms” — has been a controversial clause. It was invoked in a time when America was still a relatively new country, and there was still much lawlessness throughout its lands that required such a mandate… and the Wild Wild West was still to be won.
Gun ownership in the United States remains prolific compared to the rest of the world, but with the continued misuse of firearms by “looney tunes” from Colorado to Wisconsin, the debate over gun rights protection versus gun control has grown more divisive than ever before.
“There are 88.8 firearms per 100 people, which means the U.S. has the highest gun ownership rate in the world. In fact, it’s nearly 40 percent higher than Yemen, the country with the second highest gun ownership rate (54.8 firearms per 100 people).”
Over the last few years, trends have shown an evenly divided public with slightly more Americans now favoring the right to own firearms, as opposed to those who support controlled gun ownership. The thing is, one rifle isn’t the standard for gun owners anymore – 62% of Americans have more than one gun in their home or on their property.

Your lead graphic is misleading and provocative. There is no debate about “a right or a privilege”. They are two different words with two different meanings. The amendment states that it is a right of the people, not a privilege of the people. The Supreme Court has so held on three occasions. That is just a fact.
So the next question is, naturally, why would you post such a graphic? To promote a moot controversy?
They may be two different words, but when you look at the context in which they are being used – and what’s going on in our society – they are in fact not moot. There is a debate going on. Is it right: “morally good, justified, or acceptable,” for someone to own a weapon to protect themselves and their property – yes.
The debate comes when people misuse this right, and carry out terrible acts against innocent people. Acts in which the behavior of owning a weapon comes into question, and leads to the issue: should it be a privilege? The “special right, advantage or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people,” to own weapons – maybe not.
Should certain individuals be allowed to own weapons of a certain variety, in which they have no business owning? Are they a threat to themselves or others? Could these weapons be used to harm innocent people? These are the issues we’re facing, and it sucks that a few bad apples have ruined it for the rest of the responsible gun owning Americans.
Who is it for you to say they have no business owning them?
Second, sorry to say bud, but the second amendment isn’t about hunting or even home defense, it’s about checking tyranny you would do well to learn that.
Third, cops kill innocent people all the time and they are civillians, what is it that makes them a class of civilians above everyone else?
Third, gun violence will still occur, laws or no laws. The only thing gun restrictions do is take guns away from people who follow laws. Criminals, by definition don’t care.
It’s like we should make a law against murder or something?
Please don’t encourage the growth of tyranny and the enslavement of honest people.
