Thursday 06.28.2012 , Posted by

In so many ways Dieter Rams had it right with his 10 Principles of Good Design… and this weather app based on those principles gets a lot of things right too. Designed in the light, purposeful style of Rams’ work for Braun, the app features just the information you need and provides it all on one intuitive screen. With the white iPhone shown here, the clean aesthetic of the design is just gorgeous. [Read more...]

London Streets Become an Experimental Symphony

Wednesday 06.27.2012 , Posted by

In an age of ever louder sounds surrounding our daily life, designer Mark McKeague asks an interesting question: “can the city become a symphony?” We’re not talking about simply using jackhammers and the sound of passing busses to create some form of Stomp like cacophony of crashes and bangs, but rather using modern technology to create synthesized sounds which could be quite beautiful. These Aren’t Photos: Hyper-Realistic City Paintings

Wednesday 06.27.2012 , Posted by

It’s hard to believe, even on the second or third glance, but these images aren’t photographs: they are actually amazingly realistic paintings by artist Nathan Walsh. Almost everything about these large scale works serves to deceive our eye into thinking that they are images of real-life: the shadows, colors, bright spots of sunlight and reflections are nearly perfect in their realism. It’s an impressive feat of skill and patient dedication to the creation process. [Read more...]

The Unselfish Reasons Why People Write Online Reviews

Wednesday 06.27.2012 , Posted by

We’ve all been out looking for a new restaurant or service to try, and when we see reviews online, it lets us know people are talking about them — good or bad. With so much content, services, and businesses out there (especially on the web) more and more consumers are flocking to online review sites, forums and apps to share their opinions. As we’ve all learned from social media, people like to talk, and they like to share… so it’s a logical conclusion that the best way for people to get their opinions heard and share their experiences with the masses is by posting their reviews of businesses here online. Cult Classic Characters & Musical Icons Illustrated

Come with me and you’ll be in a world of pure imagination. This song has been stuck in my head since I first looked at Rich Pellegrino’s phenomenal portrait of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. Pellegrino creates vibrant illustrations of some of the most easily recognizable figures in pop culture. Clearly a huge fan of Bill Murray (portraying him in his roles from Caddyshack, Life Aquatic, & Rushmore), the illustrator chooses facial expressions that embody each character to a T. Each one of Pellegrino’s portraits from cult classic movies, such as Pretty in Pink, Back to the Future, The Big Lebowski, and Little Shop of Horrors capture the exact image that comes to mind for each role. Those Aren’t Mountains, It’s an Aquarium!

Tuesday 06.26.2012 , Posted by

What look like foggy landscapes from alien planets, or maybe even the moody landscapes in some Rococo era painting, are actually carefully planned images of aquariums. Artist Kim Keever takes fishtanks and using plaster and other materials crafts landscapes within. He then fills the tanks with water, sets up lighting and photographs his aquatic set while adding in powders which form clouds and fog. The results are stunningly surreal… and sometimes even very realistic. [Read more...]

A Tribute to the Solo Cup Made from Beer Cases

Tuesday 06.26.2012 , Posted by

Now here’s a tasty collage: Alex Krutchkoff took 20 plus cases of beer and carefully arranged them into a colorful tribute to the iconic red Solo Cup. He says the project took over 50 hours to complete and considering the loads of beer each case contained, we’re sure it was a fun project to piece together. For more about this designer and artist, see krutchh.com or follow him on Instagram @krutchh. [Read more...]
