Cult Classic Characters & Musical Icons Illustrated

Come with me and you’ll be in a world of pure imagination. This song has been stuck in my head since I first looked at Rich Pellegrino’s phenomenal portrait of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. Pellegrino creates vibrant illustrations of some of the most easily recognizable figures in pop culture. Clearly a huge fan of Bill Murray (portraying him in his roles from Caddyshack, Life Aquatic, & Rushmore), the illustrator chooses facial expressions that embody each character to a T. Each one of Pellegrino’s portraits from cult classic movies, such as Pretty in Pink, Back to the Future, The Big Lebowski, and Little Shop of Horrors capture the exact image that comes to mind for each role. The drawings of the musicians he chose to depict, including Janis Joplin, Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, and Ray Charles, are just as radiant and true to character.

When not creating colorfully captivating illustrations of the most beloved cult classic stars and musicians of this century, the 32 year old artist keeps busy illustrating children’s books and young adult publications in Providence, Rhode Island. Be sure to check out more of Rich Pellegrino’s vivid sketches on his website and blogspot. You can read a more detailed description of each piece and purchase many of his iconic pieces on Etsy and show him some love on Twitter!
