The Flaming Lips have raised $25,000 for charity by selling a human blood filled version of their Heady Fwends album, but not just any blood- famous people blood! The specimens contain blood from Ke$ha, Chris Martin, Justin Vernon from Bon Iver, 2 members (Alex & Stewart) of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Erykah Badu, and many more. There were only 10 double record albums available and each one cost $2500, with all of the proceeds going to The Oklahoma Humane Society and The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma. Watch below as lead singer Wayne Coyne lists all of the famous hemoglobin you’ll see swishing around when this record is playing. The Twitvids are from Daniel Huffman, a former band member of The Flaming Lips, who also donated his blood for the special album.

A few weeks before the blood vinyl was released, Third Man Records released a special-edition liquid filled vinyl of Jack White’s “Sixteen Saltines” single to celebrate Record Store Day in Nashville, TN. We came across this album through Redditor FaxGob which led to a post of Wayne Coyne’s blood vinyl video by charbzz. Upon further researching liquid filled records, we discovered that there was a prototype for a colorful liquid (aniline dye colored silicone fluids and oils) filled movie soundtrack for the Disney film The Black Hole that was never released due to leakage. Hopefully the glitch has been fixed for the 10 lucky people who purchased the Heady Fwends album or the area around their record player might end up looking like a crime scene that would surely throw a CSI team for a loop.

  1. Can someone make out what song is playing in the background of the second video? Adds a dash of classic innovation.
