Collectables Remixed With Real Honeycombs

Saturday 03.24.2012 , Posted by

Not only are bees a vital part of the human existence, providing pollination for our crops and the holy goodness that is honey, but they happen to create combs of high esthetic value to art collectors as well! Have you been thinking about starting your own beehive or have one already? How about throwing a collectible inside the hive; i.e. a figurine, vintage sports equipment, tablecloths — just to see how the honeybees react to the objects. It’s a strange idea, but that’s exactly what this very different artist is doing. [Read more...]

Mirrored People in the Forest

Next time you find yourself walking in the forests of Scotland, look for mirrored people. Located on the woodland walk at the David Marshall Lodge, “Vestige” is an art installation created by Rob Mulholland. A contemporary sculptor and installation artist based in Scotland, he had originally intended for the six mirrored people (three women and three men) to be temporary. Hikers passing through the forest enjoyed the displays so much however, that it has now become a permanent art installation for all to enjoy. [Read more...]

Friday 03.23.2012 , Posted by

The people over at Future, a wing of the BBC, have been hard at work thinking of a question bigger than this: how big is space? They tried and tried, and when they were stumped as to what could possibly be bigger than space, they set out to illustrate it. What transpired is something colossal. Something so big it couldn’t be squeezed into one image in Photoshop, but four separate images that had to be stitched together for out viewing pleasure. Printed out, the graphic spans 27 pages of A4 paper. Are Bananas Really As Bad For You As Cookies?

Friday 03.23.2012 , Posted by

The title of this infographic by Massive Health reads like it was lifted off an episode of the hit TV show, Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader: Are Bananas Really As Bad For You As Cookies? Why would anyone ask if a banana is better for you than a cookie? It’s such a noob move, and the answer is such a no brainer — something even a 5th grader can get right. Imagine you’re sitting in your living room watching the show, Jeff Foxworthy pops this question and you instinctively shout at the television, “The cookie is way worse than the banana!” You pat yourself on the back proudly, confident in your answer. But, is it really? (cue Twilight Zone music). [Read more...]

Landscape Photography Melts into Color Fields

Thursday 03.22.2012 , Posted by

Looking a lot like a Technicolor concept for Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends, the landscape photography of Robert Schlaug is captivating in its simplicity. His works take the outside world and stretch their colors, creating linear striped gradients of their natural palette. The carefully chosen starting points for his gradients playfully interact with their surroundings, sometimes appearing like waterfalls at the edge of a country road, other times becoming a wall-like digital sunset. Hyper-Realistic Illustrations by Yanni Floros

Thursday 03.22.2012 , Posted by

Yanni Floros is an Adelaide, Australia based artist who trained at the National Art School in Sydney where he graduated as a sculpture major… but that’s far from where his talent stops. His work moves seamlessly between painting, sculpting and drawing, while his focus remains steady on the pursuits of man and how those pursuits impact our development. While he is obviously on his way to mastering these skills, there is one important thing to point out about this series: these are charcoal illustrations, not photographs. [Read more...]
