What Do Musicians Know About Romance?

“You’d think that people would have had enough of silly love longs, but I look around me and I see it isn’t so,” wrote Paul McCartney in his now classic Silly Love Songs… and the statement grows more true every day. Music about love must be the largest genre ever… I mean what else is there to fuel such passionately emotional songs? With their joyful lyrics, animalistic screams and soft-whispers, love songs range from the sappy to the sentimental, to the dark and depressing. It’s all been done in the name of love.

Playfully exploring the topic of sexy lovin’ in music, this graphic uses a series of Venn diagrams to assess what musicians know about love, finding some entertaining results from combinations between famous song titles (Jay-Z’s result is priceless). Following this up, the graphic looks at what artists ask from their lovers (hint: a lot) and looks at what time you should be making love according to songs (feel free to choose a song for later today).

  1. Love the time of day chart. What font is in the center of the venn diagrams? It’s delicious.
