Inside an old Victorian art studio in West Oakland, CA Gregorio de Masi is constructing yet another otherworldly creation. Born in LA in 1982 but growing up in Rome and London, he got inspired to make art at a very young age. Returning to the states to pursue a full-time career as an artist, Gregorio worked in an Art Department for feature films. It is there where he started to experiment with atmospheric fog machines and where the idea came to him to apply the use of those machines in a more visual way – to create live paintings.
Gregorio de Masi combines his paintings with stained woods, copper piping, fog machines, and other organic or industrial materials. His Steam Box LIVE Painting Rig is a unique way of bringing art and fantasy alive. His work takes you on a journey through your imagination from the depths of the seas, to old galleons, or through a mysterious alternate Victorian era. Gregorio de Masi has been an inspiration to many and has a way of capturing his audiences attention with a realism and experience that makes you feel a sense of wonderment and connection to the art displayed. In the words of the artist:
“We are blessed with a beautiful gift – the ability to translate visions and dreams into reality. Artists help show the world alternate places, alternate perspectives, alternate ways of thinking. I believe artists can help heal the world with their art by using it as an educational tool, painting positive messages for society. With global creative consciousness we can all help envision a new world.”
