The Man Who Lived on His Bike

Author James E. Starrs once said “Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling” and this catchy new video, which will make you smile ear-to-ear and itch to hop on a two wheeled contraption, proves Starrs was right. I’m sure Montreal based cyclist Guillaume Blanchet would agree too. He spent 382 days riding through the streets of the sometimes cold, sometimes hot and sometimes rather scary Canadian city filming himself from the handlebars of his bike, all the while looking like he lives on the saddle.

“I love being on a bike. It helps me feel free. I get it from my dad,” says Blanchet of his father Yves to which the film is dedicated.

Guillaume’s own dedication to cycling is clear from the short film, proven as he rides the streets sometimes nearly naked, playfully shaving and showering from the saddle, and at other times braving the icy, snow sprinkled streets while eating or even doing a Rubik’s cube. As the story progresses he cleverly mixes in themes of work, hobbies and even love along his route. You can find out more about this fun loving guy at his Myspace page.
