The world of high fashion gets a geek culture overhaul thanks to Hong Kong-based illustrator and designer John Woo, and is titled He Wears It. Design sketches are an imperative part of the fashion process and a home for the ideas swirling about in the artists head. The sketch book is a window into the inner workings of an artists mind. A place where ideas are etched furiously into the sketch book so the artist doesn’t miss a single flash of brilliance. They’re also a place of painstaking detail, where hours of meticulous work is jotted down purposefully. What comes out of these sessions are a finalized product that – when designed well – can truly be called a vision.
In these sketches, we get a glimpse into the vision of what John Woo pictures classic Star Wars characters to look like while dressed in their favorite cult fashion lines. We always knew Boba Fett to be the Tumblr-theme designing hipster type, but we never expected Darth Vader to be a dapper and preppy gent in his Band of Outsiders gear. Then there’s Chewbacca – always the wildcard – who impresses in his neo-hippie, hacky-sacking, Mexico city color scheme ensemble, by Outdoor Style. The world of Star Wars never seems to get old, and with artists reinventing new ways to envision the characters, it’ll be years before society ever tires of them. There’s nothing”hipster” about this. Everyone’s getting too lazy with that word.
What’s hipster about this..? People use this word way to much.
This word has taken too many turns, and has morphed outside of it’s original context – to the point that it’s not even relevant or it makes me cringe to hear it.
