Photographer Mark Laita has taken his superb eye beneath the waves to focus on the extraordinary creatures who inhabit the depths of the vast ocean. The collection which came out of these brilliant images is entitled Sea, and its purpose was to show “the grace and diversity of sea creatures reflected against the surface of their world.” Laita has succeeded in bringing the wonderment of the ocean and it’s mysterious creatures to life by taking these brightly colored subjects and placing them against a stark black backdrop, which helps to intensify the viewing experience.
The life which exists under the sea is as wild and varied as the life that exists above. The ripples of the waters surface and its glinting reflections set against the black backdrop lay these beautiful sea creatures open and bare for us to admire. Marvel at the the fiery red hues of a North Pacific Giant Octopus, the sky blue hues of jellyfish, the canary hues of the Golden Butterfly, the iridescent greens of the Green Chromis, and the cat like yellows of the Leopard Whiptail stingray. Laita is masterful at bringing out the textures of these creatures, giving us a further glimpse into the ripples and reflections of their personalities.
